Launch of CRSI in New Delhi on 31 July 2024

CRSI was initiated through a consultation in February 2024 with mills, brands, NGOs, and government agencies to understand the sector’s challenges. The discussion highlighted the need for a shared platform to exchange knowledge and coordinate action. Participants endorsed CRSI as a timely initiative to strengthen the sugarcane industry’s competitiveness and resilience.

The Coalition was formally launched in New Delhi by the Hon. Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya, in the presence of around hundred eco-system representatives. The Minister underlined the importance of collaborative efforts to embed responsible practices in India’s sugarcane value chain. Senior representatives from the Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA),Centre for Responsible Business, Solidaridad, The Coca-Cola Company, Hershey’s, and Bonsucro joined as founding partners, marking a milestone in sector-wide partnership.
