About the Coalition for Responsible Sugarcane India (CRSI)
The Coalition for Responsible Sugarcane India (CRSI) was established in recognition of the sugar industry’s economic and social significance and the growing need for collaboration on sustainability and responsible business conduct to address systemic risks in the sugar supply chain. CRSI provides a neutral, constructive, solutions-focused space for the ecosystem partners to exchange ideas, share lessons, develop practical tools and actions that strengthen both environmental and labour focused outcomes.
A collaborative multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to embed and promote responsible and sustainable business practices across India’s sugarcane value chain.
To provide a collaborative platform for members to drive systemic change through action, dialogue and advocacy. The coalition aims to pilot and scale innovative measures to help address sustainability challenges and systemic human rights risks in the Indian sugarcane sector. This includes addressing issues at the intersection of gender and human rights and seeking to drive meaningful improvements in the lives of vulnerable workers, small-holder farmers and communities.
CRSI is a facilitator and convener that aims to support the sugar industry in translating ESG, BRSR, and NGRBC frameworks into practical actions. It helps mills and other value chain actors identify opportunities for improvement, share good practices, and adopt responsible business models that are feasible and impactful.
