CRSI, in collaboration with the School of Business Environment at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) through its Centre for Responsible Business Advisory, is spearheading an initiative to develop sector-specific guidelines and a practical toolkit for the adaptation of the National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct (NGRBC) for the sugarcane sector. The project aims to help sugar mills and associated organizations navigate sector-specific opportunities and challenges, promoting responsible, transparent, and sustainable practices across the value chain. It will provide actionable guidance, harmonized data sets, and knowledge resources to support the effective implementation of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) principles, focusing on areas such as labor welfare, environmental stewardship, and ethical business practices. By enabling organizations to integrate RBC into their operations, the initiative seeks to strengthen sustainability performance, enhance compliance, and support the livelihoods of India’s rural workforce, especially migrant farm workers.
IICA is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, dedicated to catalyzing excellence in corporate affairs through policy advocacy, action research and capacity building. This initiative to develop sector-specific guidelines would involve engaging with all relevant stakeholders in the sugarcane sector through targeted field visits and stakeholder consultations.
